Never Let a Kind Word Go Unsaid.

“Never let a kind word go unsaid.” A classmate of mine said this in my AP Government and Politics class my senior year of high school and it has stuck with me ever since.
There are countless opportunities within this lifetime to impact the lives of others. There are even hundreds of opportunities within a singular day to impact the people around us. You have the power to leave a lasting impression on others. Make sure you use that power to create positive impressions.
Kindness is one of the most important values to uphold. I am constantly reminding my friends and family and everyone around me to be kind. My friends laugh and joke sometimes because I will often say: “Is that kind?” when a rude remark is made. Sometimes it’s simply a joke, but sometimes what one perceives as a joke could truly be detrimental to one’s mental health. So if I ever ask you “was that kind?” I truly hope you reflect on your statement.
Kindness can empower people. It’s a powerful tool, and when we use it properly, we can make someone’s day, week, or life. Never letting kind words go unsaid is a practice of expressing your feelings to others. It means you tell that girl that you love her outfit or you tell that boy he has beautiful eyes. It means you thank the Starbucks worker for making the best tea you’ve ever had or you thank your waiter for being patient with you as you give a complicated order. Maybe you want to tell someone you love their laugh or their smile or think they have the most welcoming presence.
This means every single time you have a kind thought about somebody in your mind that you say it out loud. A simple compliment or kind comment could live in someone’s mind for days, weeks, or years.
Think about all the times you walked by someone and wish you would have given them a compliment. Think about the countless opportunities you have had to make someone’s day, yet you didn’t. Maybe you were afraid it would be awkward or weird, or that they would judge you for saying something to them. Maybe you were just in a rush and (shocker) too focused on yourself. That’s okay. We all do that. However, from here on out, never let a kind word go unsaid.
Never let your kind thoughts live in your own mind forever. If we don’t express how we feel, how are they supposed to know? If we let kind words go unsaid, we miss opportunities to spread kindness and spread the Light of Christ within the world. You never know what people are going through and who needs a little extra sunshine in their life. Some people haven’t heard kind words about themselves in a long time. Be that for someone today. Be that for someone tomorrow. And never, ever, let a kind word go unsaid.
