Before the Bus Breaks Down.

Today was one of those days where nothing seemed to go right. My day consisted of everything from a sprained ankle to Chick-fil-A forgetting my honey mustard to my packages not showing up to my tv remote batteries dying. But I think the most comical part of my day, and the moment something really clicked in my mind was when my bus literally broke down in the middle of the road (I wish I was joking). I really felt like God was sending me a sign that the bus and I had something in common at that moment. We were both run down, exhausted, struggling, and in the midst of facing the weight of the world, we both were breaking down. It’s essential to take care of things before the bus breaks down… and no, I’m not talking about a bus.
Sometimes life seems to just pile up. It’s one thing after another after another after another, and it can be so overwhelming. It can be so exhausting. It can truly feel like the weight of the world is crushing you. And if you don’t take action, that weight will eventually crush you. All the little things that pile up will eventually become one big pile, and you will feel buried beneath it. The bus eventually breaks down. Humans eventually break down. This is your sign to deal with the stress, anxiety, challenges, fears, pain, and trauma before the bus breaks down.
While I was sitting on the bus today, stuck in the middle of the road, I realized the parallel between the bus and I. I realized that if I don’t take the proper time to prioritize my own needs and create healthy habits to cope with my own struggles, that I too will break down. I had to remind myself of some hard truths. Nobody is expecting for you to have it all figured out. Nobody is relying on you to be perfect or to be a perfect influence. Nobody is expecting for you to operate smoothly 100% of the time. However, you have to be functioning and be able to get from point A to point B safely. You have to be able to carry yourself with enough energy, enough passion, enough desire to live this life. You have to put yourself first sometimes so that you don’t allow yourself to run empty. It’s okay to take a break, but it’s not okay to allow yourself to get to the point of breaking down. You have to take care of the bus before the bus breaks down.
