The motivating factor behind this dress is the surprising element of the hot pink half skirt and the tulle train on the dress. In 1937, Schiaparelli invented the color “Shocking Pink,” a bold, bright shade of pink. She would go on to use this color in many of her famous designs and incorporated it into her collections for years to come. Naturally, my favorite color is also pink and I knew I wanted to hint at Schiaparelli’s usage of shocking pink in one of my designs. I created a hot pink half skirt as an element of surprise to spice up the creme strapless dress. I also added rhinestones to the top and made the strapless top have sharp corners to create a very structured, sophisticated dress. This look is intended to be the best of both worlds, having elements of structure, but also utilizing the surprise factor of the hot pink tulle.
